Senior living placement services in Buffalo, NY (2026)

Eight options Buffalo and Western New York families use, compared on what they do, who pays them, and how local they are.

Short answer: Buffalo families can choose national referral platforms (A Place for Mom, Caring.com), locally owned franchise advisors (Oasis Senior Advisors, Assisted Living Locators, CarePatrol), local independent advisors (Cardinal Care Advisors, Buffalo Senior Advisor), or the free public option, Erie County NY Connects. All of these private services are free to families and are generally paid by communities or providers. NY Connects is a government program that gives impartial information but does not place people. The list below is alphabetical after Cardinal (our own service, listed first and clearly labeled). It is not a quality ranking.

Buffalo-area advisor for assisted living, memory care, independent living, and hospital or rehab discharge in Erie and Niagara counties. Free to families. Participating communities may pay a referral fee when a privately paying resident moves in; we disclose relationships before introductions and do not accept referral fees for Medicaid-funded care. Also connects families to staying-home help (HOMEWARD) and one shared application (CarePair). How we are paid.

2. A Place for Mom

The largest national senior care referral platform, by its own description: 15,000+ participating communities and home care providers and 400+ advisors. Free to families; paid by participating communities when a referred family moves in and by home care agencies per referral. Families see options from its network. Compare in detail: A Place for Mom vs. local advisors.

5. Caring.com (now part of SilverAssist)

A national senior care directory with consumer reviews and a phone-based Family Advisor referral service. SilverAssist acquired Caring.com in January 2026. New York’s free, impartial information and assistance program for long-term services and supports, run locally through Erie County. It helps with home care, caregiver support, meals, housing, and benefits such as Medicaid. It is not a placement agency and is not paid by communities, which makes it a good neutral first call, especially if Medicaid is involved.

8. Oasis Senior Advisors (Buffalo)

A national franchise network with a Buffalo office. It offers free help finding independent living, assisted living, memory care, and other options. Oasis is part of SilverAssist, the same company that owns Caring.com.
