Questions about meaningful activities in memory care

Questions for the people evaluating and providing support.

Ask how staff learn what a person enjoys and how they adapt participation. Meaningful activity can be quiet, individual, or familiar; it does not have to look like a busy group event.

What to clarify

Discuss the individual's interests without assuming their past hobbies remain comfortable or appealing. Ask how preferences are observed and updated.

A practical next step

Provide a few possible interests and invite the team to explore them. Look for a process that allows choice rather than promising a particular outcome.

Questions to take with you

  • How are interests identified?
  • Are individual options available?
  • How can a resident decline or change activities?

Turn answers into a next step

After your conversation, record what was confirmed, what still needs an answer, and who will follow up. Keep sensitive records in the appropriate private channel. These planning questions help organize a conversation; they do not replace a provider assessment or professional advice.
